Crumbs Kitchen

imageI often think how lucky I am to live in Uplands, Swansea.  For those who don’t know Uplands is an area which has a wonderful vibrant community feel; we have our own monthly Market in the square; Book Clubs; Jazz Clubs; Choir; Music venues; Pop up Kitchens; Churches; Kids Clubs; Schools and any kind of gathering one can think of. The community is made up of young and old and we have a healthy measure of students thrown into the mix.

Most Fridays after the school run I can usually be found with a group of mums from Brynmill School and Bryn y Mor School having a well deserved coffee and breakfast at Crumbs Kitchen, 2, Gwydr Square, Uplands, SA2 0HD.

The cafe has an amazing community feel with the school run mums, office workers and local people of all ages joining together for a catch up before the day unfolds.  The staff never fail to greet you with warm and cheerful smile and chat.  It is the kind of place you can go as a couple; a gang or on your own.  There is always a welcome.  Oh and they do takeaway!

Crumbs Kitchen serve the tastiest organic vegetarian and vegan food at very competitive prices.  They have a wonderful breakfast menu that is prepared fresh ranging from toast or porridge to a Surfers breakfast.  This morning I partook of eggs Florentine.  This is a generous portion of  thick wholemeal bread topped with vibrant green spinach and two perfectly poached eggs with the most amazing golden yolks, covered in a sunny yellow blanket of hollandaise sauce.   I was feeling slightly under the weather (too much gin the night before!) so also indulged in one of their freshly made juice blends. Served in a jam jar which never fails to make me smile.

Crumbs also provide the usual baked spud with various toppings along with a fresh daily menu of curries; quiche; pies; lasagna and a salad bowl that is hard to beat. I am told that all ingredients are locally sourced. There are temptations of freshly made cakes and scones along with a fruit salad bowl (especially loved by the small people).

Even if you don’t want to eat I can highly reccomend their coffee which makes the morning rush drift away and sets you up for the next few hours!  They also serve a range of fruit and herbal teas if you don’t need the caffeine!

Its hard to believe that Crumbs manage to serve all this in quite a small place yet still it feels comfortable and spacious over their two floors.  It really does have a good vibe.

There is also a Crumbs Kitchen in The beautiful Morgan Arcade, Cardiff.  The venue due to its location has a quirkier feel but has a similar menu to the Swansea establishment and to quote the old adage: ‘If it aint broke don’t mend it.’

Crumbs Kitchen can be found on Facebook and have their own website if you don’t believe my thoughts about it! I probably should add that this review is entirely my own and no one has paid me to write about Crumbs.  I just wanted to!   Happy Friday x
